NEW YORK STATE PRIMARY -- 2010
PSC endorsed candidates: NYS Primary Sept 14, 2010
Statewide and US Congressional Races:
The PSC and New York State United Teachers (NYSUT) have endorsed
candidates for the state Senate and Assembly and US Congress in
addition to Thomas DiNapoli for New York State Comptroller in
the Primary. Please visit the NYSUT webpage for a complete
candidate list.
State Attorney General
In an independent action, the PSC has endorsed Eric
Schneiderman for Attorney General. The Attorney General is
the people's lawyer, and Eric Schneiderman has demonstrated
throughout his career that he is dedicated to the interests of
working people. As a State Senator representing upper Manhattan
and southwest Bronx, he consistently supported greater funding
for CUNY, , progressive income tax reform as a fair solution to
New York’s chronic budget deficits, and championed our adjunct
unemployment insurance legislation. He is determined to
continue fighting the corrupting influence of big corporations
and will be an excellent Attorney General. To volunteer: email

What else you can do:
The PSC Committee on Legislation is asking for your help in six
critical primary elections here in New York City. In addition
to Eric Schneiderman’s campaign (information above), All
of the following candidates need your help before primary day
and your vote on September 14th.
We encourage you to find some time in your busy schedule over
the next few weeks to volunteer for one or more of these
candidates. By doing so, you can make an important contribution
to electing leaders who understand the needs of CUNY, our
students, and all New Yorkers.
Bill Perkins for New York State Senator in SD 30 Manhattan.
Senator Perkins has been a longtime friend of CUNY, our students
and the PSC. He has been a vocal advocate for improving public
schools and against privatizing public education through
expanding charter schools. Now he is being challenged in the
primary by a charter school proponent funded by hedge funds and
financial industry backers who stand to benefit. To volunteer:

www.billperkins.org/
Velmanette Montgomery for New York State Senator in SD 18
Brooklyn.
Senator Montgomery has fought for expanding programs for
minority youth, humane treatment of children and families in the
criminal justice system, and greater funding for public
education and CUNY. Like Senator Perkins, she has been targeted
in the primary by a pro-charter school proponent. To
volunteer: call Irene VanSlyke at (917) 531-1149 or visit

Gustavo Rivera for New York State Senator in SD 33 Bronx.
Gustavo Rivera is a CUNY graduate (Hunter College) with deep
roots in his community. He is challenging the incumbent
senator, Pedro Espada, who is under investigation for
corruption. Backed by most labor unions, Gustavo Rivera’s
election will help the Democratic Senate majority govern in a
more responsible manner. We are confident that he will be a
strong advocate for CUNY and public higher education. To
volunteer: call Gabe Panek at (646) 450-5429 or visit

Gregg Lundahl for New York State Assembly in AD 73 Manhattan.
Gregg Lundahl is a UFT member and a strong supporter of public
education and the employment rights of teachers. He is
challenging incumbent assembly member Bing in the Democratic
primary. Bing sponsored legislation that would undermine teacher
tenure. To volunteer: email

Francisco Moya for New York State Assembly in AD 39 Queens.
Francisco Moya is running for the open seat and has broad
support from labor unions, community organizations and Queens
political leaders. His opponent in the primary is the
discredited former state senator, Hiram Monserrate. Francisco
Moya is a young and exciting candidate who will support our
issues.
